Thank you for telling and sharing - I would have never known or researched ...

Erwin Rommel was one of the most famous German generals, but in 1917 he was only a young lieutenant.
He participated in the so-called Battle of Caporetto (12. Isonzoschlacht), in which, although he was only a lieutenant, he played an important role.
He left Tolmino on 24 October 1917 and on 26 October had already reached and conquered Mount Matajur.
For the conquest of Matajur he received the highest decoration to the value of the German Empire, the Pour le Mérite.
The pano was taken by me during the descent from Mount Matajur and Rommel, like me ;-) could begin to see the fertile plains of Friuli, which would soon reach.
It is fun to know that he was nicknamed "the desert fox", but he began his career on the snow in the Alps.
Obviously I do not want to celebrate Rommel, who was eventually defeated, but only to remember a little-known historical episode.

My positive rating applies to the Panorama picture.
Rommel is a war criminal for me (siehe z. B. http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/d-40616081.html).

I have no sympathy for Rommel. I only told a historical episode of 1917, when Hitler was a simple soldier and Rommel was a mere lieutenant.

For me this picture brought back a lot of thoughts. Why can we "celebrate" Rommel? Because he was a VERY lucky survivor of this manslaughtering machinery of war. Let us remember of the millions not so lucky. And YES - let us name it "iron curtain" what Westeners had to observe. Millions and millions, complete nations, have been taken away from Europe into the "custody" of Stalin. Heinz - do not forget the original meaning of "Eisener Vorhang" and try to understand the role of the Publikum in front of it .....

I prefer to change the title.

The old title was not a bad one, Giuseppe, for we should not be afraid of names.
