Ricchissima di storia, Cividale del Friuli affonda le sue radici in epoca romana. Fondata da Giulio Cesare col nome di Forum Iulii (da cui deriverà poi la parola Friuli), fu capitale del primo ducato longobardo in Italia, e in seguito sede dei Patriarchi di Aquileia. Dal 1420 fu, con tutto il Friuli, annessa alla Repubblica di Venezia.

You're right! The Natisone river flows very, very slowly across the old town, so it looks like a lake - only a little bit narrow. Everything in here is calm, silent and peaceful. Ducks and gooses (not swans!) swim quietly in a postcard-like landscape. Come in north-eastern Italy !! There are many real jewels in our country, ancient and rich of history and culture.
