Ja, die Argentinier haben den Namen aus Schweden nicht gut kopiert...
In dem Glaciarium von El Calafate, liest man:

Descubierto en 1901 por H.Pritchard quien lo llama "Glaciar de los Gigantes".
En 1908 el geólogo P.D. Quensel lo bautiza con el nombre de la universidad sueca. Es el tercero en tamaño del HPS y de Sudamérica.

Kuriös: Samstag verzweifelte ich, ob Upsala oder Spegazzini zu veröffentlichen:

Und den seltsamen Italinischen Namen Spegazzini haben sie gut kopiert!

Natürlich sind hier die Geschichten von Taufen und Namengebungen immer höchst interessant. Die wichtigste habe ich schon bei N.18358 erzählt.
