As I stated in the last pano, I was much surprised and impressed with our close passage of the Mainland of Shetland - but it didn't end there! As can be seen on the last, the outlying island of Foula came free of the Mainland only when we were close on Sumburgh Head, but we got to enjoy a close passage of Foula as well. Many Puffins (Fratercula arctica) were flying around the ferry along with Fulmars (Fulmarus glacialis) which was nice to watch.

Regarding the view, it is interesting, that the highest hill of Shetland, Ronas Hill, can be seen from here, but not from the southeastern side. Udeuschle confirms that. The location point isn't 100% accurate, but is close enough.

The pano made from 17 pics (RAW), 70-200mm @70mm, iso-100, f/7,1, 1/640 sec, developed in DPP (ALO off, cloudy, neutral, moderate sharpness), stitched with PTgui pro, contrast regulated in GIMP, downsized and sharpened in Irfanview.

I like it - natural colors and a sharp, detailed rock.

Cheers Steffen

I've heard a lot about this wonderful small island - well done, Jan!

This is an amazing scenery and you present it in a very good sharpness.

Sehr detailliert abgebildet, bis zu den fernsten Inseln. Doch nirgends ist ein Shetlandpony zu sehen, nicht mal Schafe :)

Fascinating view in great quality. I'm sure the weather there is not often like this. Cheers, Martin

@Heinz: Actually a few sheeps could be seen in the binoculars :-)

@Martin: I am sure you are right. It was my lucky day :-)
