To present the river Una, it is sufficient to report one local theory about its name: it would have originated under the Roman domination, because the river was considered the most beautiful in the whole Empire...
Few kms east of Otoka is Novi Grad, where the Una ends its life at the confluence into the far less interesting Sana. Otoka means «island»: namely, the brand new mosque that you see in central positions rises on a little island, and is accessible from left by a little bridge. Behind me, downstream, there is another island hosting very enjoyable restaurants. On the hill visible left runs the 1995 Dayton line: Federacija BiH on the valley side, Republika Srpska on the other. The mosque is one of the first, but not the very first that one meets coming from Italy. The first two which greet the traveller are proudly located on top of a hill in Izacic, near Bihac. Believe it or not, in a straight line they lie 112 km from the Italian border behind Trieste. The system itself (namely, I am lazy!) will give you the distance from the orthodox church depicted in the panorama «Vranjska», which, I guess, is a sensible candidate to be listed under «Panoramas in the vicinity»... Do you believe that the distance is that yielded by the system? Well, such is Bosnia! 8 vertical jpeg images, 34 mm (x1.5), f/8, 1/250 sec. Larger: http://bit.ly/2PQEVq8 |

LG, Alberto.
