Der Seno Ultima Esperanza, der Fjord der letzten Hoffnung, verdankt seinen melancholischen Namen dem vergeblichen Versuch des spanischen Kapitäns Juan Ladrilero, im Jahr 1557 einen westlichen Eingang zur Magellanstraße zu finden. Seine Suche führte ihn durch zahlreiche Fjörde und Kanäle, jedoch ohne den gewünschten Erfolg.

Am Ende von Material und Mannschaft stand ein letzter Versuch, "die letzte Hoffnung", auf dem hier sichtbaren Fjörd. Aber auch dieser Weg endete mit einem Gletscher und zwang den Entdecker schließlich zur Aufgabe und Umkehr.

Die Aufnahmen zu diesem Panorama entstanden vom Dach der Mylodon Höhle, einem "Touristen-Pflicht-Stop" an der Strecke zwischen den Torres del Paine und Puerto Natales. Das Wetter an diesem Tag war leider nicht sehr berauschend, auf den höheren Bergen sieht man den gefallenen Neuschnee.

Kommen jetzt die Schlechtwetterpanoramen? Ich wäre sonst aber auch vor Neid geplatzt. Wie bei mir so scheint sich hierbei auch allgemein die Begeisterung verhaltener einzustellen als den Vorgängern. Die Stimmung ist bei diesem Bild großartig und wohl die typischere. Ein schönes Scrollergebnis und eine gelungene Bildaufteilung.

Wieder ein Pano, das die Weite dieser eindrucksvollen Landschaft hervorragend einfängt. Ich fürchte ja, daß das hier das "normale" Wetter ist, und das "schlechte" Wetter nicht mit solcher Sicht glänzt. VG Martin

... die "Sterne" bleiben! Auch diese Stimmung in der weitläufigen Landschaft hat ihren Reiz - lG Hans-Jörg

If I remember well, in the meadow below what I now learn to be the "Silla del Diablo" there is a Virgen de la Patagonia...
I think that I would have been nice if, diabolically contradicting for once the aesthetics of the site, you had photoshopped, on top of the Silla, the wonderful Milodon Darwini that "lives" in the Cueva!

I am glad of your curiosity, and I hope to be able to satisfy it one day. In Italy we say that hope dies last... as you see, I am in sync with your/our fjord. Unfortunately, I do not know how many chances the many gigabytes that I am collecting do have to survive the Andes inside a bag of a bicycle... Worried about this, I was trying to "save" some significant photos on the web - although my main concern remains that to save the photographer, even more than the photos. For few weeks I was able to achive this, but now I met a formidable problem. I have with me substantially only 64GB SD cards, which can be read only since Windows 7. Well, hard to believe, but for example nowhere here in Calafate, however they shaped it prentiously like an (ugly) copy of Cortina, was I able to transfer a single bit from the camera and/or card to some local Windows or Ubuntu!!
Withdrawing pesos from an ATM is a similar adventure, but for example at the third bank that I probed here in Calafate I succeeded in getting something. Well, tourists that are travelling by buses and planes and taxis, and who can afford to carry a bit more safely thousands of dollars in their pockets, get at the black market 20% to 40% (!!!!) more. But this is Argentina - under certain respects, if you deem it "third world" you truly offend the latter!
This is why I am speaking of Europe with so much admiration.
