Grange Stone Circle, near Lough Gur in County Limerick is one of the most impressive stone circles in Ireland. Built around 2000 BC by the people who brought metal and beaker pottery to Ireland. This site is older than the later phases of Stonehenge's construction in England (Stonehenge was built in 3 phases between 3000 and 1600 BC). The Grange is the largest standing stone circle in Ireland. The ring is made up of 113 contiguous standing stones, with an internal diameter of approximately 46m. Its purpose was most probably ritual. The Irish name is Lios na Grainsi and means something like "Stones of the Sun". The largest stone is Ronnach Croim Duibh (the prominent Black Stone) and is 4m high and weighs over 40000 kg.

Hi Jos! A really interesting photo with a good composition. Could you tell me more about this mistery (celtic?) stones? There is a small error on the left side, the overhead lines are not closed. I wait with my rating until you corrected. Greetings Werner

Thanks for informing me about the small error, Werner. I didn't notice if myself. I have replaced the photo for a better one. And I added some information about the stone circle. Hope you like it!

Yes, that's great! I like this kind of additional information. My last stay in Ireland was very long ago. I was 19 years old and I drove along the southern and western coast with my bike, powered by guinness. ;-)) Fantastic! Greetings Werner
