Location: Tokaj / Komitat Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (104 m)      by: Hans-Jörg Bäuerle
Area: Hungary      Date: 23.08.2017

Hi HJ.
Until a few years ago (I remember very well) "Tocai" was the traditional name of a local Venetian and Friulian wine. Some agreements between Italy and the European Union in 1993 prohibited the use of the name "Tocai" since March 2007, as it is too similar to the Hungarian doc Tokaj and the homonymous production area. The similarity is related only to the name, since the Tocai Friulano and the Hungarian Tokaj are completely different as wines for color, perfume, taste and production methods. In addition, Hungarian Tokaj is not a single wine, but a variety of wines from the same area of the city of Tokaj as it is a DOP with different types of wine. Nevertheless, as you can see these unbearable Italians are always in the middle!!!!
About the photo, it remembers to me some paintings of Magritte, particularly "The empire of lights". Beautiful atmosphere!
Ciao, Alvise

Durst'ge Zecher,
greift zum Becher,
lasst ihn kreisen
schnell von Hand zu Hand!
Schlürft das Feuer
im Tokayer,
bringt ein Hoch
aus dem Vaterland! Ha!
Feuer, Lebenslust,
schwellt echte Ungarbrust...

I have to admit that I never drank a single drop of Tokaj. I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

@Alvise
Thanks for your helpful informations - I've heard about the similarity of these different wines.

@Alberto
Großartiger Kommentar und Link ;-)
