Der Tag hielt, was die aufgehende Sonne (#21238) versprochen hatte - es war durchgehend sonnig und schön und um die 20° warm. Zunächst fuhr ich nach Monemvasia - da hat Giuseppe schon zwei sehr charakteristische Ansichten gezeigt (siehe "in der Umgebung" rechts). Über Neapolis ging es dann ganz in den Südosten des Peloponnes. Von weitem ist der "Petrified Forest" ausgeschildert. Die letzten beiden Kilometer geht es über eine Staubstrasse zum Meer. Das Informationszentrum war in der Nachsaison natürlich geschlossen, dafür war mal wieder weit und breit kein Mensch zu sehen.

Die geologische Attraktion hier sind die versteinerten Palmstrünke, angeblich zwei bis drei Millionen Jahre alt. Etwas mehr Information auf

Had it not been for a dog on the Eymanthos, I would have been back to the wonderful Cape Maleas also last summer... This time I intended to reach Agia Irini from the side of Velanidia. Studying the subject in Google Earth, I spotted a path going towards the lighthouse. At a certain point, however, it seems to end, and the northern side seems to become inaccessible, such that I convinced myself that to reach Agia Irini one needs to to climb the very summit of tne mountain. Hoping, of course, that the Mediterranean scrub allows for this, which -as you know - is not guaranteed at all.
